The JNDC Covent Garden Mahogany features a quarter-sawn Bees Wing Honduran Mahogany steam bent shell and Bird’s Eye Maple reinforcement rings. The shell timbers are quarter sawn to reveal the natural flame and fire found within the wood grain of this highly prized musical grade timber. This unique combination of woods not only produces a beautiful visual and aesthetic contrast, but the Bird’s Eye Maple reinforcement rings balance the darker and warmer Mahogany by raising the pitch of the upper register. The tonal quality of the drum can best be described as warm and full, with a high-end register that is clear and vibrant.
The Covent Garden Mahogany is also extremely sensitive and articulate within all dynamic ranges, making it the ideal instrument for concert and symphonic application. With bearing edges finished to machinist-grade tolerances and vintage-inspired snare beds cut to maximize snare response and color, these fine instruments are finished in a hand-rubbed pure Tung oil finish to maximize their vibrance and unrestricted performance, both key attributes of JNDC steam bent wood shell design.
The Covent Garden Mahogany model design and hardware consist of 2.5mm solid brass bright nickel-plated single flanged hoops, ten solid brass bright nickel-plated Corder tube lugs, vintage-inspired snare beds, 24k gold-plated brass JNDC feather motif drum badge, and the bright nickel-plated proprietary cast bronze JNDC “One Touch Classic” snare drum strainer (throw-off) system. A certificate of authenticity, serialized lapel badge, JNDC Strainer Tutorial DVD, and a complimentary embroidered soft shell case accompany each instrument. The JNDC Covent Garden Mahogany model is available only in a 6.5x14 size.
